Prince's lawyers warn paparazzi off Middleton Thursday, Mar 13 2008

The photographers, who have heeded warnings not to gather outside Miss Middleton’s London home, have adopted a new tactic.

They take turns following her – in cars, on motorbikes and on bicycles – and exchange information by telephone on her whereabouts.

Miss Middleton has complained to Gerald Tyrrell, her lawyer, who also acts for Princes William and Harry, that wherever she goes, a photographer is always one step ahead of her. Miss Middleton, who is hoping to pursue a career in photography, has challenged the photographers, who claim they are acting as paid agents by British tabloid newspapers and magazines.

The daily pursuit has continued even though Prince William, a second lieutenant in the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals, is on a four-month secondment with the Royal Air Force in Lincolnshire.

But because they are rarely seen in public due to the Prince’s military commitments, there is even more interest in a photograph of them together.

Mr Tyrrell, from the law firm Harbottle and Lewis, has written to the Press Complaints Commission to protest. The PCC has secured assurances from all the tabloid editors that the photographers are not in their pay. If the newspapers were paying photographers to stalk the 25-year-old, they would be in breach of the industry’s harassment code, which states: “Journalists must not engage in intimidation, harassment or persistent pursuit. They must not persist in questioning, telephoning, pursuing or photographing individuals once asked to desist.”

Tim Toulmin, the director of the PCC, said: “It is not entirely clear what is going on. But as soon as we were informed of these concerns we contacted newspaper editors.

“The board of the commission discussed the matter at its last meeting. It has said it will take things further if and when it receives any evidence.”

One source close to the royal couple said: “If the newspapers were found to be paying the paparazzi as agents it is a clear breach of the code and we would consider our legal options.”

The couple, who separated last year, have rekindled their romance leading to renewed speculation of a Royal wedding. They spent Christmas apart as William was on regimental duties while Miss Middleton was on holiday in Barbados. They met at Highgrove briefly in the new year before Prince William left for Lincolnshire.

Harbottle and Lewis have already obtained “disturbing” footage of the paparazzi outside Miss Middleton’s London home to support any complaint.

Last year, the Daily Mirror apologised for publishing a photograph of her, after she accused the newspaper of harassment.

Kate Middleton Fling First: Then Prince William Off to Fight? Thursday, Mar 13 2008

Kate Middleton may be busy at home battling the paparazzi for her privacy but her prince may be ready to go to battle and be off to war.  Literally.  Prince Harry has just returned from a hot zone in Afghanistan that was kept top secret until Matt Drudge on the Drudge Report exposed it in a blockbuster scoop.  Now the UK Sun claims that it might be Kate’s beau Prince William that is off to fight. The report claims that he will serve on a warship with the Royal Navy.  He won’t exactly be on the front lines in Afghanistan as Prince Harry was, but Prince William will be seeing some action in what has been dubbed a “hot zone.”  The two royals just keep getting hotter.  But before the prince serves his duty he may get in a little private time with his possible bride to be Kate Middleton as reports claim they will try to sneak off for a little one on one time before his deployment.  Nothing wrong with that – tradition and all. There has been plenty of speculation that the on again off again couple might actually be on the rocks but friends say that is ridiculous and they see each other as much as possible.  The supposed trip is said to be a skiing holiday for the pair right before his naval deployment.

WIAA state girls basketball: Middleton sports versatile lineup Thursday, Mar 13 2008

Background as a high jumper and volleyball player enables JoLyn Owen to snare a rebound, and work on a relay team helps to cut off an opponent in the lane or open court.

Twelve athletes on Middleton's 15-player prep girls basketball team participate in different sports, and it is a variety coach Jeff Kind endorses.

"If I was a college coach, I would have all basketball players, (but) as a high school coach I think it's such an important part of their high school experience to get as many different things into their life as possible," Kind said. "I like having a team with a lot of different kinds of athletes."

The versatility has enabled Kind to use a deep rotation that has carried the Cardinals to the WIAA state tournament Thursday night at the Dane County Coliseum, where Middleton (20-3) faces defending state champion Milwaukee Vincent (19-3) in a Division 1 quarterfinal.

All 15 players have seen action this season, and eight have started at various points. The depth has enabled Middleton to hound opponents defensively and it has shown on the offensive end where no player averages double-digit scoring, leading to seven players who have held game-high scoring honors.

"You go in there for 2 to 3 minutes and give 110 percent and you know that you're going to be getting sub and (then) getting right back in there," senior forward Danielle Beckwith said, a University of Wisconsin swimming recruit and a four-year performer at the state swimming and diving meet.

Playing multiple sports, players said, also helps in training different muscles, conditioning and fends off burnout and boredom.

"I think that's cool to have a lot of dedication, but I don't know if I would have as much fun or enthusiasm to keep getting better at the one thing. I think it would kind of get dull. I don't think I would always give it my all," said senior forward JoLyn Owen, the team's leading scorer (9.8 points per game) who also anchored the Cardinals' 400-meter relay team that finished eighth at last season's Division 1 state meet.

Added Beckwith, whose sister Kayla also is on the basketball and swimming teams: "I think probably in the long run I would become a better swimmer, but I don't know if I could take swimming constantly even though it is my No. 1 sport and that is what I am going to college for.

"I do think that having this break from swimming to play basketball, I'm still staying in shape and everything, but I think it's a good break for me to have."

Just get involved

Kind has seen burnout before, going back to his multi-sport playing days.

"You see it all the time with kids that are really good in a sport as seventh- or eighth-graders coming up through grade school, and then maybe as freshmen or sophomores," Kind said. "And then all of a sudden, maybe they don't even go out their junior year or they stop improving or something and then it's kind of over. I think it's easy (to burn out) if all you do is one sport.

"It doesn't have to be sports — (just) get involved."

Basketball is a recharge of the batteries for Kessenich, a second-team, all-state right fielder who didn't have to wait an entire year to get back on the diamond after Middleton was no-hit by Madison La Follette in a softball sectional semifinal last year.

"It's a nice pick-me-up," said Kessenich, a senior guard averaging 8.1 points. "It just means a lot that we're doing this and going to state."

Gunderson — a UW soccer recruit who was Middleton's starting goalkeeper when the Cardinals won the state title in 2006 and again on last season's state semifinalist team — plays club soccer in the fall and summer and in indoor leagues during the winter. She believes all the activity has a carryover effect.

"During the offseason, it keeps all of us in shape so we don't have to worry about getting in shape once the season starts," said Gunderson, third on the team in scoring at 8.8 points per game.

Cleary, the crossover is working.

"We have soccer players, we have dancers," Kessenich said. "It all just comes together pretty nice."

Prince William Entered Into A Secret Pact With Kate Middleton Thursday, Mar 13 2008

London, England (CNS) – Prince William has a “secret pact” with girlfriend Kate Middletown. The second in line to the throne has entered a pact with the 26-year-old Berkshire native to make sure they would still end up with each other despite separating in the meantime.

Sources say that the Prince wants to concentrate on his military career this year and the couple has not seen each other since Christmas. He wants to do well at his career but doesn’t want his relationship to suffer. So the Prince reportedly told Middleton to wait for him, which she had agreed to.

“Kate is prepared to wait for William – there is no question of that. But she’s concerned he’s trying to loosen the relationship,” a source tells News Of The World.

“She knows it’s a risk but feels she can only accept his ‘pact.’ Kate loves him and hopes he will finally realize she’s the one.”

“He wants to excel at his military career but she doesn’t want it to be at the expense of their relationship. After all she has put five years hard work into it and taking the pressure that comes with being his girlfriend.”

KATE MIDDLETON & TARA PALMER TOMPKINSON FRIENDS Thursday, Feb 28 2008

Prince William’s girl Kate Middleton has a new friendship that’s set to horrify the Palace …she’s become close to ex-drug-addict Tara Palmer Tompkinson.

Kate, 25, has enjoyed girlie evenings at Tara’s £1million Chelsea home since the pair were introduced by Wills’s best friend, Guy Pelly.

Tara’s parents are old friends of Prince Charles, but she has been “cut off” by the Royal Establishement since the late 1990s when she admitted being addicted to cocaine. But a pal said yesterday: “Tara sees herself as an older sister-style figure who can offer Kate advice and a friendly ear.”

“It girl” Tara’s life span out of control in 1999, culminating in a drug-fuelled appearance on Frank Skinner’s TV chat show. She later won further fame on I’m A Celebrity and began a new career as a TV presenter.

Prince William captured an Australian girl's heart Thursday, Feb 28 2008

ondi Beach native Cheri Scrivener says she was whisked off her feet when the prince – who attended Tom Parker Bowles’ nuptials without his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton – invited her to dance at the wedding reception in 2005.Britain’s Prince William captured an Australian girl’s heart after teaching her to jive at his stepbrother’s wedding.

Bondi Beach native Cheri Scrivener says she was whisked off her feet when the prince – who attended Tom Parker Bowles’ nuptials without his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton – invited her to dance at the wedding reception in 2005.

She said: “He grabbed me and said, ‘Do you know how to rock’n'roll?’ When I said ‘No’ he said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll show you!’

“He threw me around the dance floor and I followed not really knowing what he was doing. He captured a little bit of my heart.”

William also serenaded Cheri by singing his own version of London dance act Studio B’s hit ‘I See Girls’, but the blonde insists it was all “innocent”.

She added to Australia’s New Idea magazine: “If he’d been single I would have gone out with him. I don’t think I’d have danced with him if his girlfriend Kate Middleton had been there, but it was all innocent.”

Cheri was invited to the wedding because Tom’s bride Sara Buys is her cousin.

Meanwhile, William’s relationship with 26-year-old girlfriend Kate Middleton is said to be under strain after the prince couldn’t leave his four-month pilot training course at RAF Linton in North Yorkshire to celebrate Valentine’s Day (14.02.08) with his lover.

Mario Testino: Kate Middleton Isn't Working for Me Thursday, Feb 28 2008

Contrary to press reports, aspiring photographer Kate Middleton isn’t teaming up with Mario Testino.
In January, reports in respected British papers (including The Telegraph) claimed Prince William’s girlfriend would begin working in Testino’s New York studios in March.
“She’s s not! She’s not! I don’t know where that came from,” the photographer told PEOPLE Monday night at a Burberry/Vanity Fair exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery, which included Testino’s famous shots of Princess Diana. “I promise you, she’s not.” Despite her run-ins with the paparazzi, Middleton has expressed a keen interested in photography. In November, after quitting her job as an accessories buyer at English fashion chain Jigsaw, the 26-year-old hosted a party to celebrate portrait photographer Alistair Morrison’s book Time to Reflect.
Testino – who has also photographed Princes William and Harry several times – didn’t completely rule out taking Middleton under his wing.
“Maybe one day,” he said, laughing.

A right royal cad and bounder – not Tuesday, Feb 26 2008

New Idea has broken the disgusting news on its cover this week, spilling all of the details of Will’s “secret Aussie girlfriend” whose “wild night with William” sent poor Kate into a “royal rage”.

We just can’t believe it. What a little bastard who … er, hang on a sec. (Long pause.) Umm, sorry, Wills. (Blush.)

Upon closer inspection – as in microscopic inspection – New Idea quietly lets slip that the romp took place three years ago and consisted of an “innocent” dance at somebody’s wedding reception.

After an anticlimax like that, only a copy of Famous will do. Forget boring royals. Famous puts a bit of sex back into the week with its three-page special: “Best and worst celebrity kissers!”

It has gone to great lengths to assess the kissing strengths and weaknesses of various celebrities including Johnny Depp (who gets the thumbs up) and Bruce Willis (who cops a thumbs down for kissing “like a big old camel”).

The mag even goes to the trouble of consulting a kissing “expert” who, after carefully analysing a photo of Nicky Hilton kissing her boyfriend, concludes that the couple are engaged in a “technically advanced kiss but not the most intimate type because it involves no tongue”.

In no need of kissing advice is Rove McManus. According to Woman’s Day, the TV host has been getting plenty of practice with his girlfriend, the actress Tasma Walton. WD is so desperate for the couple to become betrothed that it has decided to nudge things along by announcing an engagement anyway. “Wedding bells for Rove & Tasma” the magazine declares.

With no engagement occurring, WD assures it readers that it is really only a matter of time. They feel it in their bones. Promise.

Hopefully Tasma and Rove will be better parents to their future offspring than Nicole Richie, who wins an award this week for the world’s hardest partying mother-of-a-newborn. NW reports that Richie is cramming the shindigs like a woman convinced that a worldwide ban on parties is looming. “Four parties in two days!” the mag spits in disgust, adding, “Where’s (baby) Harlow?” At home we suppose.

Basketball Stars Hold Reading Rally at Gretna School Tuesday, Feb 26 2008

Basketball Stars Hold Reading Rally at Gretna School

Posted on: Monday, 18 February 2008, 09:00 CST

By Stephen Maloney

Students at Kate Middleton Elementary School in Gretna got a lesson on the importance of reading from a host of National Basketball Association and Women’s National Basketball Association All-Stars, MVPs, Olympians and a former Harlem Globetrotter Monday morning as their school’s library received an infusion of much- needed books.

As part of this weekend’s NBA All-Star Game festivities, the NBA Cares 2008 Community Caravan held a Reading Rally in the Middleton gymnasium for third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students. The event was led by Basketball Hall of Fame member “Big” Bob Lanier and WNBA Community Ambassador and 1994 Olympic gold-medal winning U.S. women’s basketball team member Jennifer Azzi.

Former NBA star Felipe Lopez, Indiana Fever star and gold-medal winner Tamika Catchings, former WNBA star and Harlem Globetrotter Lynnette Woodard, New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul’s mother, Robin Paul, and brother, Charles Paul and Los Angeles Sparks rookie Sidney Spencer joined Lanier and Azzi at Middleton.

Each star read his or her favorite children’s book to Middleton students after Lanier and Azzi impressed upon the students the importance of reading.

“Who’s excited about reading?” the 6-foot-6 Lanier asked to screams of approval from the children. “With knowledge comes power, so if you read and gain knowledge you can be anything you want to be.”

Woodard encouraged the children to delve deeply into interesting subjects through daily reading.

“Reading is everything,” Woodard said. “I challenge each and every one of you to always pick something up to read. If you read 10 books on one subject you will be an expert on that subject because you will know everything there is to know about it.”

Although Middleton principal Aretha Eldridge-Williams said her school’s curriculum is geared around improving literacy among the student population, the school’s library was decimated by Hurricane Katrina and has yet to fully recover.

“Our library only opened four months ago,” Eldridge-Williams said. “We had roof and water damage and lost most of our books.”

The library serves as a central meeting place at the school and holds after school activities ranging from dance classes to drama club, Eldridge-Williams said, so its restoration will do more than just give students a place to read.

Eldridge-Williams said she is a certified reading specialist and has been focusing on reading since coming to Middleton three years ago.

“We are a literacy school,” she said. “We are a reading first school. Everything we do here starts with the foundation of reading.”

But without a library full of books, Eldridge-Williams said her 295 students have been struggling to keep up with her high reading expectations, so she decided to begin searching for a helping hand to restock the school’s empty library shelves.

“I am on the advisory board for Scholastic’s Rebuilding the Gulf Coast Committee,” Eldridge-Williams said. “I said, let’s get on the board with this and try to get some help.”

Her efforts at Scholastic Inc. resulted in a cover story in the textbook publishing giant’s monthly magazine “Choices” in January 2006.

“Once I got that story in my hands, I thought, let’s use this as much as we can to get as much as we can so I sent it to the NBA Cares people,” Eldridge-Williams said.

Almost immediately representatives of NBA Cares contacted Eldridge-Williams and set up Monday’s Reading Rally and a $5,000 donation for library books.

Eldridge-Williams said she buys her school books at wholesale prices so she will be able to purchase $9,000 worth of books with the $5,000 donation.

“We’re just so excited to be able to do this,” she said. “This couldn’t have happened at a better time. February is literacy month at Middleton and this week is literacy week, so what better way to spend it than with these wonderful and generous stars celebrating reading and their wonderful gift.”
